Aion - Closed Beta Test #6

Well the last closed beta test for Aion is upon us this weekend starting on the 14th August @ 8pm BST and closing on the 17th. The focus for this last test has not been announced as of yet, but something should be up within the next day or two so i'll update when it is The level cap will remain at 30, and will also remain as version 1.0 (an update was released increasing this to version 1.5 but it's not being implemented). As a note, this is only open to those that pre-ordered the game.

If a patch download is required (which is more than likely ) it should be made available to download on the Thursday, so I recommend you do it then so you can jump straight into it when it's opened The NCSoft client has a rather atrocious download speed so please do expect it to take a while or even freeze; i'll check the forums on Thursday in case a Stand Alone patch is release like the last one and i'll pass the info along; will be on Steam under the name Ryoko and more than likely in Lotro, but i'll also update the forum so please do check

For those of you that will be joining Aion brand new as well on this test, it's more than likely you will experience what quite a number of potential players have had with Gameguard (usually an Error 114) ~_~ Me and Genesis will be able to help you sort this all out so there's no need to worry, and if it's not an Error 114 we can point you in the right direction on the Aion forums for the potential fixes Recommend you update all your drivers (Graphics, Sound etc) in preparation if they need to be done as these can also cause issues, and if you have Comodo as your Firewall I recommend you get another (or just use the Windows one) as I had to completely uninstall this to gain access to the login screen ~sighs~ Here's hoping NCSoft will do away with Gameguard in time for either the Open Beta or the actual release. Those of you running on Vista will also need to turn off User Account Controls and run the NCSoft Launcher as Administrator to hopefully bypass any other issues

I won't be in Lotro at all this weekend for raiding (sorry guys!) as I really want the opportunity to sit down and explore this game seeing as I got denied at the last beta test due to Gameguard issues, but I will be in the Aion channel on TS so if you need me or just wanna say hi then feel free to drop in

The Below only applies to those that are running Vista on SP1,on SP2 mine ran fine with UAC turned on

Becca is an expert with Error 114 so she will your point of call on that one, though i can try and assist.

Becca, Unfortunately I don't see this happening as NCSoft has invested a lot of time with GG and I can see it being here for quite sometime though their was rumor of testing under a new punkbuster client written especially for Aion so who knows.

Here's hoping NCSoft will do away with Gameguard in time for either the Open Beta or the actual release.

I run Vista SP2 as well Gen and I had to turn it off When I got it all working I tested things one at a time and when I turned on the UAC I once again got Error 114 Is just a general suggestion to have it turned off, though tbh it's probably best people test it on both settings and if it works with UAC switched on then they can keep it that way Lots of people with the same systems had many different issues, both severe or mild, so with it being this way I guess testing each bit is the best option

Lol, wouldn't say i'm an expert on anything, though it did take me all weekend using trial and error to get around Error 114 (mainly due to me having company ) And if it wasn't for you pointing me in the right direction I probably wouldn't have gotten anywhere fast

That may be the case with NCSoft investing in Gameguard, but with the amount of people that ended up with serious issues, either a fix for Gameguard, or even a replacement piece of software would be ideal, otherwise I can see a lot of potential players abandoning the game I don't think anyone would want to go through all the mess I had to just to get to a login screen

Yeah, I totally agree and there has been hundreds of posts over the last 3 months in regards to Gameguard and problems lol.

I was very lucky to have none on both Vista 64bit and Windows 7 64bit, I have also seem a lot of people having problems with pre built system from companies like Dell maybe a connection?

My cumputer was built by me and tweaked the way I want it so maybe I did myself a favour.

Additionally I don't even think GG works because once I launched the game I was able to crach GG and continue playing (I was purely testing to see if you lost sync with the server not to cheat!) lol

Lol, well I built my PC myself as well with a bit of help, but i'm no massive expert so i'm guessing something extra I have installed is also interfering with it ~sighs~

Ah well, i'm sure i'll get it sorted in time

Becca take a screenshot of your processes and services in task manager and I will take a look tonight if you want you can send it over email or something.

See if I notice anything that may cause problems

Both are roughly the same tbh One thing i'm looking forward to is maybe getting to see this story-driven content they're adding; will be a lovely taster for what's to come on the official release Just hope getting to 30 doesn't take too long lol

Anyway you can easily get to level 10 in about 2 hours, 10-15 in say another 2 hours but this is when it started to slow down and it can take a while to get to level 25 after that it speeds up again well at least to 30 anyway.

This information comes from personal experience and some info from people I know that manage to get to cap or near. On average they said it would take around 15-20 hours of gameplay to get from 15-30 and that once you know all the quests and have made a note of the best possible quest/grind routine

I do have some nice tips and pointers to share for friday when in the starting area as I manage to get from 1-10 pretty quicky well the Eylos ares as I know that like the back of my hand now but Asmodian one is pretty easy too.

A little more information about Closed Beta #6 this evening. Since it is the final closed beta, the Aion team will be holding in-game events etc, some of which will hint at content which isn't already in the game and give us a little bit of a sneaky peak. If you want to find out more about it, check their website and their news update about Closed Beta #6.

Also, if anyone pre-purchased their standard game as a digital download via the NCSoft store, you are now allowed to upgrade your standard purchase to the Collectors edition to get some of the shiny perks that come with it for only £10. As far as I am aware this offer is only available to those people who purchased from NCSoft's store and only applies to digital download versions of the standard edition.
