HELP!

Post by g3nesisuk on Jun 29, 2009 11:58:52 GMT -1
Taken from the Dell Manual
Floppy disk fail (40) or (80) error.
Additional information: The Floppy disk fail (40) or (80) errors are related to the computer floppy drive. If you are looking for information about the hard disk fail (10), (20) or (80) error message relating to the computer hard disk drive please see document CH000454.
Cause: This issue can be caused by any of the below possibilities.
Floppy cable not connected properly Bad floppy cable Bad Floppy drive - I/O
Solution: Floppy cable not connected properly
Verify that the floppy disk drive cable is properly connected. See document CH000277 for additional help and information about connecting the floppy drive as well as setting it up properly.
If the floppy disk drive light stays on and does not shut off see document CH000278.
Bad floppy cable
If the floppy disk drive appears to be setup properly and the light is not always on, it is possible that the floppy drive cable may be bad. We recommend you visit a local computer hardware store and purchase a new cable.
If the issue persists, unfortunately it is likely that either the floppy drive is bad or the I/O board or Motherboard is bad. We recommend you contact the computer manufacturer, have the computer serviced or that you replace the floppy drive then the motherboard if the issue persists.

Additionally if 1) You don't have a floppy or 2) don't use it then it would be best to go into BIOS and disable under the peripheral section.

To me that still sounds like a BIOS configuration error, boot it up and go to BIOS and check what your boot sequence is set to.
Example 1st Boot: CD-ROM 2nd Floppy 2rd HDD.
Disable the floppy and remove it from the boot sequence and that should fix it. if that does work remove the CD-ROM from the sequence and hope that is the problem otherwise its a Motherboard issue or HDD both of which are a pain to fix/replace

I inserted the Windows Vista installation disk and chose 1st boot device as CDROM.
It seems to be loading up windows atm, but ben verrry slow.
Does this mean i will have to keep the disk in at all times to actually be able to boot my pc?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EDIT: After it finished loading i gota BSOD with the error message:
Driver_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL ......... wtf
Back to Square 1.
Is there any way to reset to factory defaults?

Try the online technical chat room, there should be a link on the home page you ask questions at first to a robot which won't make any sense but a message will pop up like after 5-10 mins asking if Dell's Bimbo helped you if no click to talk to a real person lol they might be able to help.
Though saying that I haven't been on the dell page is months
